About Linfox Operational Training

Every year, more than 7,000 Linfox team members and external learners gain leading industry training in transport and logistics.

Linfox Operational Training (LOT) provides accredited and non-accredited training to all Linfox employees and a small range of courses to the public across Australia.

Non-accredited training has been tailored to meet Linfox’s operational needs and align with all company standards. Courses range from company inductions, safe work procedures on various types of equipment, defensive driving, manual handling, fatigue awareness, train the trainer and many more.

Being an approved Registered Training Organisation (RTO) as well as an approved licence provider allows us to provide nationally recognised accredited training to our people. This training empowers our people to make improvements within their workplace, opens opportunities for further education and career development and provides national recognition to under-skilled workers.

ISO9001 Certified

To ensure high standards are met, Linfox Operational Training operates a certified quality management system that complies with International Standards Organisation (ISO9001) standards. These standards cover the design and development of Linfox mandatory training and assessment for Australian operations, inclusive of the provision of approved courses for heavy vehicle and forklift licensing in Victoria.

Meet the team

Greg Lipscombe, Senior Manager

Greg is responsible for managing the Linfox Operational Training (LOT) team that services the training needs for Linfox across Australia and New Zealand. He has worked in the transport and logistics industry for more than 20 years, performing various transport operational roles before moving into the LOT team in 2013.

Greg has a passion for learning, leading him to complete several qualifications, including a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety, Diploma of Management, and a Bachelor of Training and Development.

Greg’s demonstrated commitment to quality training in the industry sees him performing other roles as the Committee Member of the Transport and Logistics Industry Reference Committee and the Chair of the Training and Education Working Group at Healthy Heads in Trucks & Sheds.

Carol O’Brien, Quality and Compliance Manager

Carol is responsible for ensuring the team’s compliance with the regulatory requirements of ASQA, state regulators and maintains the team’s accreditation for Quality Management System to ISO9001:2015.

Carol is a qualified auditor and has more than 25 years’ experience in quality management and RTO Compliance.

James Florance, Training Manager 

James oversees the day-to-day operations within Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia.

James’ 18 years of industry experience ranges from driving to operations management and almost everything in between. With over seven years of training experience, James draws upon his vast work history to impart practical skills and knowledge to learners. James has a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and a Diploma in Training Design and Development.

Simon Barrow, Training Manager

Simon manages the day-to-day operations in Queensland. He has more than 25 years’ experience in the construction, transport and logistics industry and holds a degree in Applied Management. Simon is qualified and has extensive experience in operating forklifts, heavy earthmoving equipment, tankers, heavy haulage floats, trucks with dog combinations, B-double tippers, pneumatic tankers, containers skels and general freight. Simon holds Workplace Health and Safety Queensland accreditation to deliver forklift training and assessment.

Peter de Bruin, Training Manager

Peter manages the day-to-day operations in New South Wales, with 37 years’ experience in the transport and logistics industry. During this time Peter held a range of roles including mechanic, heavy vehicle driver, forklift operator, warehouse and driving operations supervisor a safety and compliance supervisor as well as an operations trainer.

Peter was an on-site Linfox buddy trainer for six years before joining the Linfox Operational Training team in 2017.

Peter holds his heavy combination licence and a forklift licence as well as a motor mechanic qualification and a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

Stephen Kilmartin, Senior Operations Trainer VIC

Stephen supports the day-to-day operations as well as provides training and assessment to employees within Victoria. He has more than 20 years’ experience in the transport and logistics industry and has worked as a trainer for 16 years.

Stephen delivers heavy vehicle and forklift licence training and assessment to learners with a variety of backgrounds.  With industry qualifications ranging from a Certificate II, III and IV in warehousing, driver operations and logistics, operators and managers across the business turn to Stephen for his expert advice and guidance.

Peter Ranasinghe, SAP Training Lead

Peter specialises in creating SAP-related content and provides this training to Linfox employees Australia-wide. Peter pulls from his 20 years of experience in Training and IT Systems, including roles as an IT Systems Trainer, Test Specialist and Test Lead.

Peter holds a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, ISTQB Certificate in Testing, PRINCE2 Certificate in Project Management and a Master of IT.

Ryan Jackson, SAP Trainer

Ryan specialises in creating SAP-related content and provides this training to Linfox employees Australia-wide. Ryan has over five years of SAP experience, specialising in warehouse management.

Ryan draws from his experience in previous roles, including Production and Control Manager in a warehouse, Project Team Manager for storage solutions and various other positions in warehousing. Over the years, Ryan has completed a PRINCE2 Certificate in Project Management and a Cert III in Warehouse, Transport and Logistics.

Alberto Pogliacomi, Operations Trainer

Alberto provides training and assessment to employees within Queensland. He draws on his 34 years’ experience within the transport and logistic industry to provide expert knowledge and training. Alberto has undertaken various roles including forklift operator, a driver in a range of heavy vehicles (locally and interstate), fleet supervisor, operations manager and depot manager before commencing with LOT in 2020.

Martin McKendrick, Operations Trainer

Martin provides training and assessment to employees within Queensland and Northern Territory. Martin has over 15 years of experience in transport which is drawn from his service in the Australian Defence Force. He was employed in various roles as a Driving Testing Officer, Transport Manager and Fuel Tanker Driver. Martin holds a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and commenced his new role with Linfox Operational Training in July 2021.

Owen Hollott, Operations Trainer

Owen provides training and assessment to employees within New South Wales. A qualified trainer and assessor for 14 years, he brings a wealth of experience to the Linfox Operational Training team.

Owen has extensive experience in warehousing and 3PL logistics, specialising in various types of material handling equipment. These include order pickers, scissor lifts, knuckle boom lifts, elevated work platforms, telescopic handlers, front end wheel loaders, tracked excavators, skid steer loaders, civil construction heavy dump trucks and off-road water carts and all varieties of counterbalance and high reach forklifts.

Owen previously worked in heavy haulage (oversize/over mass) and other specialised transport roles. Owen is skilled in imparting critical knowledge and application of safe work methods.

Conor Higham, Operations Trainer

Conor provides training and assessment to employees in New South Wales and has been in the transport and logistics industry for more than 12 years. Conor started his journey in fuel transportation before transitioning into the retail sector of Linfox back in 2017. Over the years, Conor has held numerous roles, from day-to-day operations, logistics and allocating to supervisor and forklift operator roles.

These positions have allowed Conor to grow and adapt to the ever-changing industry. Conor said, “I owe a lot of my learnings to the Linfox brand, as I had the ability to understand and learn compliance, safety and incident reporting”.

Paul Rowan, Operations Trainer

Paul provides training and assessment to employees within New South Wales. Paul has over 15 years of experience in the transport industry. He commenced his journey as a Heavy Vehicle Driver before becoming a Police Officer; here is where he found his passion for training. Paul spent almost three years as an Education Development Officer before joining the Linfox Operational Training Team in 2019.
Paul holds a Multi Combination licence and a range of qualifications, including a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, a Diploma of Leadership and Management, a Diploma of Work Health and Safety and a Certificate III in Driving Operations.

Terry Nunn, Operations Trainer

Terry provides training and assessment to employees within Victoria. He joined Linfox as a driver in 1989 and in 1992, became one of the company’s first buddy trainers. In 2006 Terry became the site manager for the Linfox Good Year /Dunlop contract, where he gained extensive knowledge of transport compliance, safety and incident investigations before joining Linfox Operational Training in 2011. His people skills, communication skills and reliability are highly regarded, and he is often specifically called upon by sites to fulfil their training needs.

Terry enjoys classroom presentations, driver recruitment and maintaining site requirements for training compliance.

Malcolm Carroll, Operations Trainer

Malcolm provides training and assessment to employees within Victoria. Malcolm joined Linfox Operational Training in 2015 with more than 20 years’ experience in warehousing and storage. Malcolm has held many roles during his career, from forklift operator to store person, leading hand, team leader and team manager.

Malcolm holds a heavy combination licence, a Certificate III in Transport and Distribution, is a Comcare-qualified work health and safety representative and has completed a diploma level unit in Work Health and Safety Investigation.

Kieran Sutton, Operations Trainer

Kieran provides training and assessment to employees within Western Australia. Kieran joined Linfox Operational Training in 2016 and brought with him a strong management background in training, working in computer systems training, induction training, and driver training.

Kieran has attained an impressive list of qualifications, including a Certificate IV in Driving Instruction, a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, a Certificate III in Driving Operations, and a Certificate IV in Warehousing Operations.
