New electric vans for mining transport fleet

Act Sustainably

Linfox has invested in new electric Mercedes e-Vito vans to service mining and resources customers including Alcoa, BHP and Fortescue, in Western Australia.

For the past three years, Linfox has proudly led the way to electrify the logistics sector.

This electric vehicle (EV) investment is another step in Linfox’s journey to act sustainably and work towards a decarbonised transport network.

Linfox Group Manager Resources and Industrial West, Ben Hill said the electric vans perform pick-up and delivery of smaller freight items around metropolitan Perth.

“The team has been conducting optimisation trials with the vans, testing various distances and routes to achieve the best environmental outcomes,” said Ben.

“They’ve proven to be a sustainable and efficient addition to our fleet, with positive feedback from our drivers and customers.

“Excitingly, we are investigating opportunities to install solar recharging facilities onsite and plans are underway to expand our electric vehicle fleet in Western Australia.”

The investment is another proud step in Linfox’s pursuit of reduced emissions and the ongoing journey to act sustainably.

Scope 3 emissions under greater scrutiny

Linfox’s growing EV fleet is critical to its commitment to support customers to reduce their Scope 3 emissions.

Scope 3 emissions are indirect emissions that occur in the value chain of the reporting company, including upstream and downstream emissions (Greenhouse Protocol).

Linfox General Manager Property Development and Sustainability, Jason Price said companies face greater scrutiny of their indirect emissions as they commit to increasingly ambitious sustainability targets.

“Customers can’t meet their sustainability commitments alone. Linfox is committed to supporting them through fleet investment, on site solar generation and renewable grid electricity.

We are proud of these achievements, yet we recognise the need to intensify our efforts as we strive to deliver our targets and help our customers achieve theirs.”

The electric vans are better for the environment, Linfox people, customers and the community:

  • Low noise
  • Up to 260km range
  • 6 cubic metre capacity
  • Battery charging flexibility and speed. Vehicle can be charged at wall boxes and charging stations.
    • Charging times:
      • AC charging systems: 0-100%=  <6.5 hours
      • DC rapid charging: 0-80%= 35 mins (fast charging)
