BevChain unveils future-ready DC

BevChain has unveiled its newest distribution centre (DC) in Kemps Creek, New South Wales, as it continues to grow in the beverage category after opening DCs in Maddington, Western Australia, Laverton, Victoria and soon to include a new site in South Australia.

The 43,000sqm DC is home to valued customers including Coles Liquor Group, Brown Brothers, Bacardi, Fiji Water, Drinksworks, Taylors Wines and South Trade.

Designed with the future in mind, the Kemps Creek DC delivers “exactly what we need today, and everything we’ll need for tomorrow,” according to Andy Hampson, Head of Supply Chain at Coles Liquor.

“Our vision is to be the go-to drinks retailer for any occasion, and our supply chain is a big enabler of this,” said Andy.

“The DC caters to the seasonality that’s part and parcel of the beverage industry, as well as our ambitious growth plans.

“Our stores benefit from our ability to meet the Christmas peak, with product readily available. Location wise, the DC is close to key suppliers and major transport routes, which increases efficiency.”

“The DC delivers exactly what we need today, and everything we’ll need for tomorrow,” Andy Hampson, Head of Supply Chain at Coles Liquor.

Beverage hub benefits

Linfox President BevChain and New Zealand, Misha Shliapnikoff said the proximity to other BevChain managed sites will enable the sharing of fleet, people and capability.

“The ability to share resources makes us incredibly agile, with enormous benefits for lead time, shelf availability, efficiency and overall value,” said Misha.

Supporting a diverse workforce

Kemps Creek is located approximately 39 kilometres west of Sydney’s CBD.

Greater Western Sydney is known for its diverse and thriving population, with more than 50 per cent of residents speaking a language other than English.

Supporting and attracting a diverse workforce is a top priority, and the new site reflects this with a well-equipped parenting room and a prayer room.

The site also honours the Dharug Indigenous community, showcasing works by Gamilaraay and Dharug artist, Bernadette Hardy. These art works represent the shape and form of Ropes Creek, a location deeply connected to Dharug stories of fertility and motherhood.

Sustainable credentials

The DC was designed and built to achieve 5 Star Green Star certification from the Green Building Council of Australia, reflecting Linfox and BevChain’s commitment to act sustainably.

“Our customers are increasingly committed to reducing their scope two and three emissions,” said Misha.

“We work closely with our customers to meet our shared sustainability goals. It’s not only beneficial for the environment and our communities, but it also makes good business sense.”

Sustainability features include:

  • Smart LED lighting
  • 750kW solar PV system
  • EV charging capability for trucks, material handling equipment and passenger vehicles
  • Rainwater harvesting and landscaping irrigation
  • Operational waste management plan towards zero waste to landfill
