Toys, books, clothes and household items are on their way from Brisbane to flood-affected families in Townsville, thanks to the generosity of Incitec Pivot Limited employees and logistics provider, Linfox.

Over the past two weeks, Tarhynee Shepherd and her colleagues at Incitec Pivot Limited’s Gibson Island site at Murrarie have been collecting goods from fellow employees, local residents and nearby schools to donate to the Vinnies North Queensland Flood Appeal.

Linfox has thrown its support behind the campaign, supplying the shipping container for the donations and transporting it from Brisbane to Vinnies’ Townsville depot to help local families.

A North Queenslander who grew up in Cloncurry, Ms Shepherd was quick to respond to reports of the disaster.

“Three weeks ago, I talked to my work colleagues at Incitec Pivot and our local Linfox customer service officer, Bronwyn Rogers about collecting donations, and since then, we’ve received lots of toys, books, towels and household goods from employees,” she said.

“As the news spread, donations have also come in from local residents and schools in Wynnum, Belmont and Morningside.”

Stephan Titze, President of Incitec Pivot Fertilisers, congratulated Tarhynee Shepherd, her colleagues at Gibson Island, Linfox and neighbouring residents in Brisbane for their generosity towards the Townsville community.

“As the North Queensland clean-up progresses, our thoughts go out to our customers, their families and local communities at this tough time,” he said.

In a separate pledge, Incitec Pivot Limited has so far donated $100,000 to support these regional communities including Townsville, where IPL’s businesses, Dyno Nobel and Incitec Pivot Fertilisers operate.

In addition, Incitec Pivot Limited will match employee donations dollar for dollar until March 31.

Ian Strachan, Linfox President Intermodal, said Linfox is proud to be working with Incitec Pivot to provide much-needed relief to the people of Townsville.

“Linfox has partnered with several charities and agencies in recent weeks, offering in-kind logistics services to ensure that donated goods are delivered to the right people, at the right place, as efficiently as possible,” he said.

“Through Linfox’s recent acquisition of Aurizon’s Queensland Intermodal Business and expansion of our road, rail and sea services into North Queensland, we are pleased to extend this support to the people of Townsville.”
