Linfox is proud to partner with AGL on its journey towards decarbonisation.
AGL accepted the Linfox challenge to design and implement a unique solar and battery installation at the new Willawong site in Queensland, complete with solar panels in the shape of our iconic logo. The logistics facility and state head office is the first Linfox building to receive carbon neutral certification, supported by the solar and battery solution and other initiatives to reduce or offset emissions.
The site boasts a 750kW solar Photovoltaics (PV) system which converts sunlight into electrical energy. AGL installed 1,350 rooftop solar panels within this system, representing 553kW of power. The performance of this solar PV system is complemented by a 555kWh battery and energy storage solution, leading to a 40 per cent reduction in the site’s reliance on the energy grid.
The facility is in an optimal spot to catch the Queensland sun’s rays, and the battery helps store and use the energy more efficiently for use in our fleet of electric forklifts and vehicles.
AGL is also installing a second solar PV and battery solution at the Linfox Bevchain facility in Maddington, Western Australia, due to be completed in 2024.
Linfox Willawong, QLD carbon neutrality sustainability milestones (as at June 2024):
- Solar PV systems increased production from 12% to 49%
- 40% of site electricity is now provided by solar PV and Battery Energy Storage (BESS) systems
- 720 CO2 tonnes per year saved through PV and BESS systems
- 2,236 ACCU credits purchased to mitigate carbon emissions that could not be curtailed further.
AGL’s General Manager Commercial and Industrial Customers, Ryan Warburton commented “We’re delighted to support Linfox in its ongoing decarbonisation journey and to help the organisation realise its renewable energy potential. Our partnership with Linfox is a shining example of the work we are doing with our commercial and industrial customers to achieve a lower carbon future.”
“The unique installation of the solar panels in the configuration of the iconic Linfox logo demonstrates our ability to deliver bespoke solutions for our customers, while also helping them achieve their sustainability goals.”
Speaking on AGL’s podcast The Net Zero Path for Business, Linfox Manager of Environmental Sustainability, Ruby Diaz said “Our sustainability journey commenced some time ago. We are inspired by Executive Chairman Linfox Pty Ltd, Peter Fox AM who created the GreenFox program.
“We have an aggressive program for decarbonisation, and while we continue to innovate and improve Scope 1 transport technologies, we are also focused on reducing Scope 2 emissions, which stem from the electricity we use in our distribution centres on cold chain and equipment charging activities.
“For businesses trying to join the decarbonisation journey, don’t hesitate. It’s exciting. The time to start and make decisions is now. Sustainability is about partnership and there are many associations that can help you kickstart.”
