FAQ

What is Linfox doing about the environment?

In 2007 Linfox engaged PriceWaterhouseCoopers to review our current practices and identify areas of carbon emissions. As a result we developed our Green Strategy Plan (1.87 MB PDF file) outlining how we will reduce our impact on the environment.

We are investigating a whole range of environmental initiatives across the business including policy, fuel economy, and workplace culture. We continue to reduce the impact of our business on the environment and encourage all employees to commit to the environment at work and at home.

How much is Linfox reducing carbon emissions by?

Linfox committed to reducing our rate of greenhouse gas emissions by 50 per cent by 2015 based on 2006/2007 levels, and we are proud to report that we cut carbon emissions by 37 per cent by June 2012, well ahead of schedule.

We measure our energy usage as Energy Intensity (GJ/1000km), which has so far decreased from 25 GJ/1000km to 18GJ/1000km as a result of our environmental initiatives. For a more detailed explanation please refer to our Energy Efficiency Public Report .

Why has Linfox developed an sustainability strategy?

Climate change poses global social, environmental and economic risks and demands transformational change. We believe businesses must deliver deep and rapid cuts in greenhouse gas emissions, and each and every one of us has an obligation to reduce our impact on the environment.

Our sustainability strategy is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions over all spheres of the business including transport, warehousing, airports, and employees. The strategy gives Linfox employees focused areas of responsibility, concrete tasks and timelines to reduce greenhouse gases.

Can you really reduce carbon emissions by changing driving habits?

Fuel is by far our biggest source of carbon emissions. We developed the Eco-Drive program to teach drivers how to drive to make their vehicle more fuel efficient, by using techniques such as accelerating gradually, avoiding harsh braking and using cruise control on flat roads.

You may be surprised at how much fuel can be saved by a few small changes in your driving behaviour. Linfox has been able to reduce our 2007/2008 rates of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions by 9 per cent, due largely to high quality driving by our operators. Eco driving also reduces wear and tear on your vehicle.

Is Linfox using biofuels?

We are currently trialling the use of biofuels in Australia.

Does Linfox report on its environmental performance?

In Australia Linfox is registered for the Energy Efficiency Opportunities Act and is reporting under the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act.
