Linfox driver Tim Chellas won this year’s Australian Trucking Association’s Highway Guardian Award.

The award honours the brave acts of professional truck drivers.

In June 2011, Tim witnessed a truck slam into a row of vehicles before it rolled off the road and burst into flames on the Newell Highway, New South Wales.

Tim was well prepared to handle emergencies, contacting emergency services and putting out the fire with his extinguisher.

He then comforted a trapped tanker driver until help arrived. NSW Ambulance Services said Tim’s quick action had saved lives.

Tim said he was honoured and humbled by the award.

“We have a duty to help those on our roads, especially when we see a danger to people’s safety,” said Tim.
