Linfox’s Environmental Management System (EMS) is designed to identify, control and record environmental hazards.
The EMS was developed following audits at Linfox sites across Asia and Australia. Five distinct types of operations were identified and appropriate control plans, procedures and training were developed as a result.
The five types of sites are: warehousing and distribution of general goods; warehousing and distribution of dangerous or hazardous materials; distribution only operations; truck wash and service centres; and offices/administrative sites.
What’s in an EMS?
The EMS includes:
• An environmental checklist to audit performance
• Site plans to identify spill kits, waste bins and recycling stations
• Adopting an environmental incident reporting process
• Developing waste management plans.
David McInnes, Group Manager Sustainability said, “The EMS monitors ongoing environmental performance, addresses issues as they arise and ensures there is a proper reporting system. It also ensures that our sites meet their legal obligations.”
“The pilot implementations of the EMS have produced very positive feedback and we will roll it out to all our sites during the year.”
