Linfox sponsors FareShare and OzHarvest
Dated –01-06-2010

Linfox CEO Michael Byrne is pleased to announce that Linfox will sponsor Australia's leading food rescue organisations, FareShare and OzHarvest.

FareShare in Melbourne and OzHarvest in Sydney, Newcastle and Canberra, together collect enough food from major retailers and food producers to supply more than two million meals to disadvantaged Australians each year.

Surplus food from retailers and food outlets is collected on a daily basis. Meals prepared from the ‘rescued’ food are distributed by a range of charities in each city.

Linfox’s sponsorship will fund a new vehicle for the FareShare fleet in Melbourne and in Sydney the support will provide many thousands of additional meals. Linfox will also provide routine vehicle maintenance for the combined FareShare and OzHarvest vehicle fleet.

FareShare and OzHarvest provide a variety of options for community support, including volunteer and donor programs.

Throughout June, FareShare’s ‘Feed Melbourne’ campaign and OzHarvest’s ‘Feed Sydney’ campaign will raise additional funds to increase the number of meals that charities can prepare and deliver.

Michael Byrne said: "These are tremendous charities and Linfox can be very proud to support them. Both are in the logistics business and share Linfox’s values. There is also an environmental aspect to the sponsorship as rescuing food greatly reduces land fill."

FareShare won the Premier of Victoria’s Sustainability Award for the Community Sector in 2010 and OzHarvest’s founder, Ronni Kahn received Australia’s Local Hero 2010 Award in this year’s Australian of the Year Awards for her work.
