Driving for safety

Linfox’s new buddy system helps drivers learn from each other’s experience to make our roads safer.

Linfox drivers are sharing their skills and experience as part of Linfox’s driver buddy system. Buddies are experienced drivers who are selected to review their colleagues’ driving techniques, skills and attitude in an in-cab assessment.

The buddy system is a safety and development program aimed at reinforcing safe behaviours, and offers drivers further opportunity for career development. The system is part of our Vision Zero safety strategy.

Wayne White is a driver buddy in linehaul with more than 20 years’ experience and skill in operating heavy vehicles. “I treat every training session as if it were my own truck and as if the driver is a member of my family,” he says. “I’ve got good feedback from drivers I’ve worked with. It gives them the chance to ask questions and keep learning. And I’m learning too – in this job you learn something new each day.”

Mauris Bianchin, Operations Training Manager said, “At Linfox safety is our number one priority. The driver buddy system is one way to ensure that every Linfox employee is part of a strong safety culture.”
