Linfox launches environmental strategy
Dated –18-03-2008

Announcement from Michael Byrne, CEO Linfox Logistics

I am pleased to announce the launch of Linfox’s environmental strategy which will reduce our carbon footprint. The first goal is to cut the rate of greenhouse gas emissions by 15 percent by 2010 based on our 2006-2007 emissions.

Over the last six months David McInnes, our Group Manager Environment and Climate Change, has worked with his team to measure Linfox’s carbon footprint and develop strategies to reduce greenhouse gas generation.

A wide range of initiatives will be implemented in the business over the coming months and years including:

  • Trialling alternative fuels and hybrid transport vehicles
  • Driver training and new vehicle technologies to increase fuel efficiency
  • Project "Switch Off" and other ways to reduce power use will encourage us to be more energy efficient by turning off lights, computers, etc
  • A new fleet tracking system to measure and reduce fuel usage
  • The use of Carbon Mapping software to analyse our emission levels
  • We will reduce our waste throughout the organisation
  • A Hybrid or 4 Cylinder Hire Car policy across Linfox will be announced for all hire cars and all Company Cars (not utes) will be replaced with Hybrid vehicles at trade in.

To remind us of our goals we have introduced the 'Green Fox' as a symbol of our initiatives. It represents our commitment to working together to reduce Linfox's impact on the environment at work and at home.

We have appointed more than 40 Green Fox Champions throughout Linfox to guide change and identify opportunities to reduce emissions. Eventually Green Fox's will be appointed throughout the business at all sites. Initial Green Fox Champions have been divided into five key working groups; People, Framework & Accounting, Business Units, Fleet and Corporate Services/Supply Chain.

Keep an eye out for the 'Green Fox' in your area of the business. With your help we can make a difference to the way we affect the environment.
