Eco drive
A new Linfox driver training program will help the environment, reduce fuel costs and lower the risk of motor vehicle accidents.
Eco Drive teaches ten key techniques including driving in the lane of least resistance, using the appropriate gear and avoiding heavy braking. These techniques can make a big difference to fuel consumption, and can reduce carbon emissions. The program also makes the road safer and less stressful for our drivers.
Our environmental plan
Eco Drive is part of Linfox Logistics’ broader plan to reduce our rate of carbon emissions by 15 per cent by 2010 based on our 2006-2007 emissions.
Linfox is also investigating improved aerodynamic design of vehicles to reduce wind resistance and Route Modelling software to ensure drivers take the most efficient route to their destination, which also lowers fuel consumption.
Driver Rob Smith from the Truganina site in Victoria completed the Eco Drive program. “I learned useful techniques for saving fuel and how to drive with less stress. It’s useful not just for driving with Linfox but when you drive your own vehicle as well,” he said.
Green Fox driving habits
- Skip shift gears
- Accelerate gradually
- Minimise air conditioner use
- Shift to neutral for short stops
- Use cruise control on flat roads
- Avoid excessive idling, turn engine off
- Utilise mass of the vehicle to maintain momentum
- Drive smoothly, avoiding harsh braking and rapid acceleration
- Plan ahead in your driving and anticipate traffic flow
- Start your vehicle and drive off slowly, limiting engine load until it warms up
