Linfox social responsibility
Linfox Logistics is committed to making a positive difference to the communities in which we live. We work together with our employees, charities and communities to be socially accountable in line with our values.
Our first priority is safety. Linfox maintains a strong safety culture at our sites across the Asia Pacific. We promote workplace and road safety in the communities where we work through programs like Eco Drive, which teach safe and environmentally-friendly driving techniques.
Linfox is committed to the environment and reducing our rate of carbon emissions by 50 per cent by 2015 based on our 2006 emissions, and has developed a range of initiatives to achieve our goal. This year we participated in World Environment Day in India, where employees planted trees at their sites. Other ways we are helping the community include:
Surf Life Saving Club sponsorship
Linfox sponsors Nippers’ programs at seven Surf Lifesaving Clubs (SLSCs) across Australia, in line with our commitment to safety and youth development.
The sponsorship provides support for youth development programs and assists in supplying vital equipment such as boards, rescue boats and shade tents and supports safety awards. Nippers’ programs teach children fundamental beach safety and train Australia’s future surf lifesavers.
FareShare and OzHarvest
Linfox sponsors Australia's leading food rescue organisations, FareShare and OzHarvest.
FareShare in Melbourne and OzHarvest in Sydney, Newcastle and Canberra, together collect enough food from major retailers and food producers to supply more than two million meals to disadvantaged Australians each year.
FareShare and OzHarvest are in the logistics business and share Linfox’s values. There is also an environmental aspect to the sponsorship as rescuing food greatly reduces land fill. The sponsorship offers employees volunteer opportunities.
Linfox’s sponsorship funds a new vehicle for the FareShare fleet in Melbourne and in Sydney the support provides many thousands of additional meals. Linfox also provides routine vehicle maintenance for the combined FareShare and OzHarvest vehicle fleet.
Heart health
Linfox Logistics is a sponsor of the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute in Sydney to support the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of heart muscle diseases.
The Institute researches diseases including heart development and congenital heart disease, inherited heart diseases, and the regulation of heart function in response to stresses, such as high blood pressure and aging.
AFS Intercultural Programs
Every year Linfox is proud to award an AFS Scholarship to the child of a Linfox employee to allow them to study overseas for a year.
AFS scholarships allow students to experience different cultures, languages, and gain new perspectives. Since 1989 Linfox has supported 22 students to study overseas.
Bushfire Appeal
On 7 February, 2009, the Black Saturday bushfires in Victoria, Australia, claimed hundreds of lives, destroyed thousands of homes and devastated local communities.
Linfox has been involved in a whole range of initiatives to assist bushfire-affected communities. Our warehouses in several cities collected and distributed the large volume of donations of food, clothing, and household goods donated by the public. Linfox employees donated over $55,000 to the Bushfire Appeal, and Linfox Property Group was part of a charity golf day that raised over $630,000. Linfox has also been involved in many smaller projects in the bushfire-affected region, helping distribute donated goods to local families.
Sponsorship in Asia - working with local communities
Linfox works with charities in countries across the Asia Pacific on projects to benefit local communities.
In India Linfox has teamed up with Room to Read, supplying local schools with fully-equipped libraries. Over the next three years, the Linfox sponsored libraries will receive approximately 1,000 books and training support for the librarians and teachers.
The Scholarship Program to Enhance Learning and Literacy (SPELL) is a program of the East Meets West Foundation, which supports disadvantaged families in Vietnam by improving education, medical care, clean water and improved sanitation. Linfox Vietnam is involved in the SPELL program, providing children with bicycles to ensure that those living in remote areas can make their way to school.
The sponsorship of the "Greenbelt" movement in China, which will initially run for two years, will help to afforest the Qingpu district in Shanghai. The sponsorship will plant an area of 3,000 square meters. The 'greenbelt' movement engages different communities in forming tree nurseries and planting seedlings on public land.
Employee participation
Many Linfox employees regularly take part in charity events including Jeans for Genes day to raise money for the Children's Medical Research Institute, Daffodil Day and Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea to raise money for the Cancer Council of Australia. Linfox Employees have also lent a helping hand at Melbourne's FareShare food rescue organisation.
